My toddler isn’t the best sleeper. The other day I was talking with a friend and mentioned I was tired. Her reply was, “You had them so...”
Wait, what? Girl. Bye.
Yeah, I know that part, but I am allowed to get tired sometimes. I bit my tongue, but it didn’t sit right with me. Still doesn’t.
Then, I saw this post post on my friend Lori's page the other day and all the feelings I had that day rushed back to me. I wish I would have seen this post because this sums it up perfectly.
You see we are quick to make large sweeping judgments about people. Especially parents. As parents, we understand what we have gotten ourselves into, but this doesn’t diminish the fact we are human beings as well. I think people forget that part.
And being human means getting tired. I am on the hamster wheel of tired and I hope one day, just ONE DAY I will be able to get off, but as of now I don’t see an end in sight.
I hate how people who have children are some of the worst offenders. I mean they really sit on the highest of high horses and stare down at the tired minions like me with judgmental eyes.
Well, today I’m here to tell you it’s not cute and stop that ish. It’s petty and doesn’t help us. You see what we don’t tell you is we know YOU are just as tired and a bigger hot mess than we are. But there is this thing called grace and we pour out an extra spoonful for people like you.
So the next time a tired parent has the AUDACITY to say they are tired out loud, smile and reassure them we all are.
